Woodlands Warriors News
Woodlands Warriors continues with the maintenance of the Sensory Garden. Due to the weather being damp we lit the campfire.
Pupils cleared the pathways and cut back brambles that had started to grow wild. We had a hot chocolate at break before carrying on with more work. We had our lunch sat around the campfire and finished off with toasted marshmallows.
At two o’clock another class came to out to see how we were doing and as part of their topic Hot and Cold, we talked about the fire and asked if they would like to have toasted marshmallows. The Woodland Warriors toasted these for the younger students and then pass them to the staff to distribute. One of the Woodland Warriors asked if he could have a go at doing the Fire Safety Talk, which he did with confidence.

Portfield Woodland Warriors News
Our Woodland Warriors have been very productive during November in the Sensory Garden, carrying out maintenance before the winter starts. We split into groups, with different jobs to do. The pathway needed clearing as the grass was starting to overtake the area making it narrower by the week. The Summer house has had tidy up and then we started to paint this with a wood protector. Any trees that had suckers that appeared from the root system of the tree were cut off. Bushes that had started to become overgrown or straggly have also been cut back.
We had a break for lunch then returned to the garden for round two. We swapped jobs, so everybody had a go at painting and using the loppers to cut any the suckers. One student asked if he could have a go of the strimmer, so he had safety talk, wore protective glasses and learnt how to turn the strimmer on safely, then he then had a go at cutting the grass area. Check out our photos below:
