Online Safety

But why is it important to stay safe online?

Most of us use electronic equipment to connect us to the world wide web of the internet. We use laptops, mobile phones, iPads and desktop computers, all of which bring us a whole ‘world of useful and valuable information’ to our fingertips. We have access to all sorts of entertainment and resources, we can keep in touch with family and friends and even make new friends! The internet is a place where we can find out all sorts of information to help us learn and to develop new skills.

Although the internet can be beneficial to us, it also puts us at risk to the dangers of illegal activity, abuse, bullying, fraud and even worse if we’re not careful! When we use the internet, we can’t always see who we are talking to face to face. Sometimes people are not what the seem and they could be pretending to be someone who they are not.

We learn about safety around the home, at school and when we are outdoors. We also need to learn about being safe online and keep what we learn with us throughout our lives.
